We are a mixed-voice choir of enthusiastic singers of all ages and backgrounds, united by a love of music and choral singing.
Our musical heritage in Chorleywood goes back over 100 years! We perform a wide range of choral music, both modern and traditional, and welcome anyone who loves singing – no auditions are necessary. Some choir members have a lot of musical experience while others don’t, but we work hard as a group to produce great music to a high standard. We put on three performances a year and we always have great fun in the making. In between concerts we hold well-supported social events for choir members.
The Choir’s Special Occasion Singers are also available to sing at weddings and other events.
We were lucky enough to do some ‘face to face’ rehearsals in the autumn with a small group of our members. At the moment we are doing ‘zoom’ rehearsals with the hope that we will be able to put on a concert performance of Handel’s Messiah in May. We are looking forward to meeting again as soon as it is safe to do so.
What were we doing pre-covid?
Our 2019 Christmas Concert was a great success with an enthusiastic audience of nearly 200 enjoying a mix of recently written festive pieces and traditional favorites.
Fantastic contributions by the newly formed Chorleywood Youth Choir and English Philharmonia Brass made it an evening to remember.
Continuing in the Christmas spirit, some of our hardier choristers wrapped up against the cold and entertained the crowds at the Chorleywood Christmas Festival.
Together with members of the Berkhamsted Choral Society, we undertook a very successful tour to Leipzig in August.
As is traditional, the two choirs again performed ‘Evening Songs’ at St Peter’s Church, Berkhamsted to a home audience in early September.
We’ve also been singing at the Royal Festival Hall! After lots of rehearsing, and also lots of organisation behind the scenes, in May 2019 we joined forces with Berkhamsted Choral Society and The Leconfield Singers to perform Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius.
We last sang there together in May 2016 when we performed Verdi’s Requiem.
And in March 2019 our Special Occasion Singers supported fundraising for Marie Curie in Croxley Green and were ‘a great addition to the event’. The singing was much appreciated by the volunteers collecting money and by shoppers, some of whom enjoyed it so much that they went back in to listen again.
