Community Charity Concerts

2024

The next collaboration with Chorleywood Orchestra takes place on Saturday 18th May at St Andrew’s in Chorleywood. CCS Singers and Friends will reprise Haydn’s Nelson Mass in the second half of the programme. This joint community concert will be raising funds for a local prostate cancer charity.

Friday 30th June 2023. The latest collaboration between singers from CCS and players from Chorleywood Orchestra at The Cedars Care Home.

From Sarah, our Chairman ‘A huge thank you goes to the trusty 11 who created our small choir to perform at the Cedars Care Home Summer Concert last Friday evening.  Joining forces with a select few from the Chorleywood Orchestra, our combined program brought delight to the 40-50 elderly folk in the audience.  With our own Bass Nick Cousins acting as compere for the evening, much frivolity was had over the quiz questions too.

The feedback afterwards was very positive and somewhat humbling, with one gentleman, who had been humming along to our tunes, telling me how uplifted he felt, whilst also regaling the time from 4 years ago when his wife had sadly passed away from Alzheimers, but in the last few months of her life, they had jointly attended Singing for the Brain sessions, and although she couldn’t even remember his name, she could recall every lyric from old songs….it’s amazing what singing can do and mean to different people.’

On Saturday 15th April CCS Singers and Friends performed Faure’s Requiem with Chorleywood Orchestra, under the baton of Daniel Hogan. We are grateful to our MD Graham Wili for his support of this community partnership.

Spot the CCS members fundraising for Playskill outside Tesco in Rickmansworth on Saturday 10th December. They shared the carolling event with Chorleywood based Brass Bandits. Together, singers and musicians really brought a festive spirit to local shoppers! As one passer by commented: ‘The event was wonderful for my wellbeing – Playskill thanks you and so do I!’

In April 2022, CCS performed its first ever concert with Chorleywood Orchestra under the baton of guest conductor, Daniel Hogan. Together, choir, soloists and orchestra gave a memorable performance of Handel’s Messiah in Christ Church, Chorleywood, raising a magnificent £2000 for Keech Hospice through ticket sales and local sponsorship. We were particularly grateful to the professional soloists who so generously supported this charitable event.

In late September 2022, CCS and friends reunited with Chorleywood Orchestra to perform Mozart’s Requiem in St. Andrew’s Church, Chorleywood.  The choir, local young soloists and musicians were conducted once more by Daniel Hogan, now in his capacity as the orchestra’s new Music Director.  The concert was another fundraising event; this time for the local Chorleywood Aid for Ukraine (CAFUKR) charity. Through a combination of ticket sales, refreshments, a tombola stall and contributions from participating singers and musicians, the concert raised an impressive total of £1510. At the end of the evening,  Pierre Bosdet Chair of the charity gave a closing vote of thanks and updated the audience on how donations would be utilised to support those affected by the war in Ukraine.
